Hind Elhaj

Hind is one of the few Sudanese YouTubers uploading away. Not only is she an amazing YouTuber, she works as part of the Sudanese media at the first English speaking radio station in Sudan. She has used her experiences to engage Sudanese youth all around the world by speaking up about certain issues and educating others about Sudan. Hind’s videos are certainly not like being in a boring classroom, it’s more like being welcomed into a Sudanese home, drinking tea and having a good time vibe. Did I mention she is hilarious? You will definitely have a good laugh as well.

Sudan is a place that not many know exist. This place is full of history, culture, beauty and so much more. The pyramids, Sudanese cuisine, traditional clothing are just a few of many things there to discover. Watching and listening to Hind’s videos really express how modern Sudan is and living as a Sudanese in a different country. Everyone should be open minded in learning about their own country or a country you never knew existed before. Educating ourselves everyday will gain a world full of knowledge.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Why did you create a YouTube channel? I think most people create a channel when we feel like we are somehow unable to express ourselves for some particular reason. YouTube is a place I can express myself freely and it is for this reason that I love it.

๐Ÿ”ธWhat advice to those who want to start a YouTube channel? Be yourself and talk about the things that matter to you – no one can be a better you.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ What do you hope people who aren’t Sudanese to learn from watching your YouTube channel? That we exist! That we are cosmopolitan and multiracial!

๐Ÿ”ธOne of your videos, “Where are you from? Third culture kids” you described well on how it’s like to be Sudanese living in a different country. As a Sudanese-American myself, I relate. What advice do you give to those who deal with this? Accept that you will never fit into one box or even two – be open when people ask you where youโ€™re from because sadly a lot of people only come from one place, so they donโ€™t understand how someone can be so mixed.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Which place(s) did you like visiting and why? My favorite place so far have been Barcelona because of the history and Morocco because I felt very at home there. I saw a woman in a bathing suit walking with a woman with a burka and no one batted an eyelid. I find this a true sign of tolerance which is something I hope we can have again in Sudan.
